The Perfect Self-Care Sunday Routine to Start the Week Off Right

by | Nov 6, 2022 | Lifestyle, Self-Care

“When I incorporate self-care into my Sunday routine, I set my week up for the most success.”

We’ve all felt the Sunday blues before.

Instead of enjoying your day off, the time is actually spent counting down to the dreaded Monday. They are the last few precious hours of freedom before we have to return to work, school, or anything in which our time isn’t our own.

I am lucky enough now to not feel that way so much anymore on Sunday evenings. I enjoy my job and it provides me with great flexibility for other things I care about. Regardless of how great my job is though, I don’t think I could approach it with the same serenity of mind if I didn’t stay intentional with how I spend my Sunday evenings.

If you want to start your week off right, then try incorporating some of the following self-care Sunday rituals into your own routine.

Self-Care Sunday Ritual:

Practical Prep for the Week Ahead

This includes things like cleaning and straightening up the house, buying groceries, meal prep, doing laundry, and outlining the week ahead.

I know that my state of mind is a reflection of my environment, so if I need clarity and focus, then .my house needs to reflect the same. Cleaning and organizing don’t have to be a chore though.

I’ve included some items here that have definitely made the process more enjoyable:

Self-Care Sunday Ritual:

Take Care of the Living Things

On Sundays, I like to take Daisy on long walks around the neighborhood. Since I don’t have to rush back and log in to work, we get to go slowly and she has the chance to stop and sniff at everything she likes. I love these moments because I get to feel like I’m exploring and discovering things with her.

After we walk, I go around the house and water and prune all of my plants, and if time and budget allow I’ll run out and buy fresh flowers to brighten the space. Sunflowers are my favorite.

Self-Care Sunday Ritual:

Plan Outfits for the Week

Like the masses who work from home, my daily uniform consists largely of leggings and an assortment of concert t-shirts. There are occasions when I do have to leave the house though, and when that happens I want to look put together. The one way I can ensure this is to plan my outfits ahead of time. This also helps me to not feel rushed when I’m getting ready because deciding on an outfit is one less thing I’ll need to do.

Self-Care Sunday Ritual:

In-Home Spa Session

Sundays give me the opportunity to be a little more indulgent in my self-care than I can be the rest of the week. I use these days to take a hot bath with oils and salts, or even just a more luxurious shower. Sunday is typically “wash day” as well so I incorporate hair care in the routine while I light a candle, put on a clay mask, exfoliate, gua sha, and then slather on what feels like an entire bottle of lotion. When this is done, I follow it up with either silk pajamas and thick fuzzy socks; the fuzzier the better.

Self-Care Sunday Ritual:

Netflix and Chill…but like really just chill

This is the most important part because while all of the other Self-Care Sunday rituals are absolutely necessary to make sure I start the week off right, there is still an element of productivity to them. I want actual non-productive rest before I end my Sunday as well. To accomplish this I’ll watch a movie I’ve been meaning to see, or I’ll catch up on a book. If I’m feeling particularly vibe-ey, I’ll play some records and sip lavender tea.

As the years go on, it’s become more and more important to me to slow down on Sunday’s so that I am properly energized and ready to take Monday head-on.
